Guests: Lelong and Pek Lu Lu

We discussed about heaty and cooling foods according to Malaysian culture. Of course, we also get pull back and forth from one topic to another by my current favorite guest, Pek Lu Lu. I think you’d agree that you’d want her back! Share your opinion here or in the forum.

i like all the laughing. A section where Lelong laughed non stop was fun. His Sarawak Hokkein with an accent brings a lot of fun. My broken Hokkein started to pick up a lot. Thx John for banning me to use English. I fix to upgrade my computer to a Tua Tiow internet. Promise u guys next recoding won’t break up again. Heat and cold contraction screw up my line, he..he .ho ho..Good job John. Thx for calling and never give up on me.

This show is funny… i dont really understand the ’san char pia’ part…. anyway, i laugh until cry when i heard the part that John mention about drinking from the ‘duri’ of the durian… air kundur…. i wonder if its ‘tang kua’…. not too sure…. there is a drink for cooling with the brand of 3 elephant leg (or sth like that)… but i might be wrong…:p

  5. Ah Hoon Says:

This podcast is really hilarious! Lelong’s hokkien when ‘rojaked’ together with John’s Penang hokkien just bring giggles to me instantly. Like how ‘chneow’ is ‘gatai’ in Penang.. By the way, Lelong do have a certain charm to the way he speaks his hokkien! It’s like as if he speaks like an accent he tries to pick up recently. I think it is SEXY…. heheheh By the way, in case you all don’t know what ’san char’ is, its also called Haw Flakes. Kids love it, like a titbit. Very old and traditional ’sweet’, it comes in coin sized wafer thin stacked up about 20pcs and is sold in packs of 8 or 10. Can buy from your local Kedai Runcit..

  6. kevin25 Says:

  9. kacang putih Says:

John! The show of chiak juak chiak leng is very nice & funny!Quite enjoy listen to it very much!!!

  10. Ah Hoon Says:

Siao Cha Bo, could the 3 legged brand drink actually be this chinese medicine ‘Ling Yang” or ‘Leng Yong”? The one whre you boil for 3-4 hours to take during fever. It’s what they grate from the horn of those rhino right? That’s why you call it Air Badak.

  11. Joyce Teoh Says:

John, the katak puru thingy you mentioned is called “selasih” – usually the Malays and Nonya will put it in the air sirap. Air Kundur is the “tang-kua” drink lah.

  12. Siao Cha Bo Says:

Ah Hoon, I’m not sure what is it called in Hokkien, but it can be drink straight from the bottle…
