I don't feel like Penang Hokkien is a right place for political discussions because I want Penang Hokkien to be a place for everyone. It doesn't matter what your political views are, we just want to have fun here and have a good laugh, while keeping our Hokkien dialect alive.

"Blue Flim"

I did not misspelled Flim. That's how we say it in Hokkien.
I hope you'll enjoy this episode. And I certainly hope to record a second show in the future. In the meantime, share your experience in the comment area.

This week we have several listeners sharing their stories on how they got married to a foreign country. As we celebrate 50 years of independence, it's good to reflect on our national identity, especially those who live abroad. Explore the courage of those who get married to a foreign land. Laugh with us in funny situations when you get married into a completely different culture.

Since we have so many listeners not from the Penang island, we decided to invite those who live on the mainland to chat with us. Some from outside of the Penang state. But since we all speak Hokkien, we are all connected by the dialect. And that of course includes anyone who understand us even if you're not from the north. Of course, we talk more than just food, but food is the main thing we can all relate. Enjoy. Don't eat too full!

This is our second take of recording the Chau Ua 2 episode. The original was only enjoyed by fewer than 20 live listeners. I dropped the recorder at the end and lost everything!
But my Miku anger is definitely coming through as I start the show with slew of curse words.
After reviewing the show before posting, I think we have gone through a long list of Chau Ua. It's actually not too bad.

In fact, several of our guests are not Chinese educated. Share your own broken Mandarin on our Kapster Message box on the left.

Guests: Tua Pui Poh & Ah Toh Pek

We have two new guests this week to talk about Cheng Beng. I'm sure many of you have already been to the cemetery or will be going this week. Since I grew up a Christian, I didn't really know many of the rituals and customs when it comes to Cheng Beng. I'm so lucky to have two guests who are knowledgeable, especially Ah Toh Pek who has an uncle who sells things you may need for Cheng Beng. Thanks to Ah Tox and Ah Toh Pek who sent in some of these wonderful pictures.
