IMPORTANT MESSAGE: If you haven’t let us know whether you can attend our Penang Hokkien Chinese New Year Gathering and Podcasting Workshop. Please send an email to Shua Hu and let him know if you can come to the dinner. We need to make a decision on where to do this and find out the price per person based on how many people plan on coming. You have to attend the gathering dinner in order to win the iPod Shuffle and a few more other prizes sponsored by another business which we will announce shortly. They are very cool computer products including headsets, microphones, wireless mouse and more.
Today we talked about several different decades of Komtar. I’m sure you’ll have a lot more to talk about. I know Ah Tox was going to record a show with us. But our earlier recording took longer, and I have to postponed the recording of Komtar 2 to the future. If you want to join us for the recording, please check back here and in the forum.
If you listen to the show from our website. You might want to try subscribing to our show using iTunes. Click here to see Penang Hokkien Podcast listing on iTunes, or click on the “Subscribe PenangHokkien via iTunes” button on the left of this page, THEN click on the “Subscribe” button to get our show free, and regularly.
Don’t forget to take part in our after-show conversations in the Penang Hokkien Forum.

Hailamkekpui… i was in the ferry as well… haha…. but this year not much fireworks…. anyway, its quite a nice experience to countdown on ferry… (“,)
heh SPK, i am not sure whether we were in the same ferry. it was a very special new year for me.
i used to work for super komtar during my school holiday, used to eat at Nam Hong also ha ha, lots of memories…
first thing that came to me about komtar was….
i spent most of my weekends on 4th floor ‘pah ting ting’
??cinema…
does anyone knows there used to be a swimming pool at 5th floor? i’ve been there and its very nice…
and my first roller coaster ride was at 5th floor amusement park…
I used to love Nam Hong western food,,…and at that time even the boss and me knew each other well and everytime i went to order the food he sure knew where to send even i dont said so,,,,and yaya i did rememebr he have a very good son who help him out after school too..a very “SU BOon ” type that time……hehe
Ah Tox,
Thank you for saying me “Su Boon” ….haha (may be the guy who u said is not me). Anyway, thank for always “kua guan” my father western food and enable him to “zhi” me until “pu pu poa poa” and also study in “tua oh”. 😛
I have a lot memory about KOMTAR and it is really sad to know that it have since loss its glory day! I still remember when my girl friend ( now my wife!) first brought to KOMTAR way back late 1980’s, the place just seem special to me……I love the food outlet at the back of the second floor where you can get ‘SIAM MEE’, “HOKKIEN MEE” and other Penang local dishes……..although today I spend most of my time oversee but whenever I get a chance to back to Penang, I will take deep look at KOMTAR!!! I really hope one day, KOMTAR will return back to its golden day again……

Aiyo John, I was one of the biggest fan of New Kids on The Block. They never come to Penang or Malaysia. They once had a concert in S’pore.
