Just learned from the podcast today that ‘you tube’ in hokkien is “lu tiao”.
I’ve got some taiwan working friends that pronounce ‘you tube’ as “u to-be”. When i first hear time, u was like: huh??? Then he says, “u dunno meh? u to-be so famous eh.” Then when he show me time, only i know it’s you tube. hahaha.
I heard luah cio from china’s radio. This word is very nice, its meaning is so clear
hiam jio is teow chiu…huan jio..is hokien..i tink.
Local Ginger not spicy ……. I heard before as this is from Cantonese – “pun tei kiong erm lat”. Usually hokkien or teow chew do not recognize this phrase.
本地姜不辣?
1.Local ginger is not peppery.; Familiarity diminishes appreciation.; A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country.
