Guests: Katakpuru, LapChiong, and Xiamen Ah Long.
Xiamen Ah Long is planning a trip for two of his friends from China to visit Penang. He picked our brains as to where to show them around in Malaysia.
What do you think? Can you add on to the suggestion list?
NOTE: Ah Long, thanks for the correction on ?? instead of ??!

I think the main thing to do in Penang is eating. No rejection? For breakfast you can go to gurney to have bah kut teh, or the kopitiam opposite coffee bean in pulau tikus to have the curry mee and ‘kuih chiap’ and the pancakes or the hokkien mee behind super burma. For lunch you must take them to try Chicken rice (many nice ones around). Then at 3pm, you must take them to New World to have ice kacang, and char koay teow, and mee sultan or go to Farlim for the laksa. Then for dinner you can go to teluk kumbar or tambun for seafood or New Lane. then for supper you can go to pasar jelutong to have char koay kak, laksa, char bihun and si ko theng.
Guess why am i so good with all these? because this is what i am going to do when me and my husband go home to penang!! we can’t wait for that day.
I MISS PENANG FOOD!!!!
About the monorail, let just hope this time is for real. hopefully, they will provide a better public transportation to penang. but i am still buying a car when i come home. dun really have so much faith in them… 😛
But I am so worried if they throw out after eating our food leh. They’re 1st-timer to Penang, what we think delicious might not really taste appealing to them. Last time a Cantonese colleague of mine got sick after taking my favourite Curry Mee. Hopefully they enjoy our food though.
Monorail – Monorail. I am so eager to travel in Monorail in Penang. I will be very very disappointed if this one turns out to be another smoke screen.
Ah John…… Tourist Attraction should be Lv You instead of Lu You. You have to type V to get the U with 2 dots. ???? !
Hi Ah Long,
I’ve the same fantasy that LRT (monorail) in Penang will announce in Penang Hokkien too, long before the plan was announced in the 9th Malaysian Plan. Hopefully the governent will be openminded enough to do this. In Taipei the mass transit system make all anouncements in Mandarin, Hakka and Minnan (Hokkien).
Ah Long,
during May is “durian tang”, you can take your fren eat Penang durian.
got 1 tropical spice garden on the way before reach teluk bahang, quite nice oso. below got some photo taken there.

Hi Penangknia:
I am not so greedy but I’d love to at least have Mandarin in Penang Monorail. Using Hokkien is a bit out of pale. Taiwan is different, just like Hong Kong. I dun think the government will take such a good care to cover Chinese dialect. One Mandarin is very very good enough. ?????? – ??????????????????????
Hi j-4-jason:
Thank you…… I am afraid these people cannot take durian. How come all our food is so unique wan arh ? Luckily they’re Cantonese (with one from Teo Chew) – quite similar to our taste. The Teo Chew guy is from Swatow – I hope he will feel home when I bring him to Swatow Keh (Kimberly Street). ^^
haha….. 1st of all, i fully support this FM! Hope can commercialize it! haha! I am missing Penang islang so so so so so so much!!! After listening to this FM, i feel Penang! Been few years leaving Penang, this FM call back lotsssssssssssssssssss of my memory…. I love this FM! Have been bookmark it to my browser… kekekeke!!!!! But i hv a correction, ” d “Hock Hak Nyi”/”fuo xue yuan” is located at padang brown there, conjunction of jalan perak and jalan anson, jalan johor there…. not “qia cui loh”/”burma road” there……. located at burma road there wan is “fuo jiao zhong”……. Any coomunity group can i join to keep contact with u all kah? Like katapulu(ur laugh so sexy and sweet), lap chiong & Ah Long( Feel both of u very clever and chong beng wo)… and of cz our “mee gu”……. hahaha! Malacca there no worry, any place in Malacca u get info of the Tourist Attractions…… They done it very well in tourism compare to Penang…….. i hv study there before… hehehe! Oh, forgot to mention that if they are from China, probably they might be interested in Dr. Sun Yat Sun museum.. where the chinese political revolution was formed…
Wah, see, I know surely, a lot of listeners would make their own suggestions to our Ah Long and his friends.
Kam Sia, Kam sia… it’s so fun to chat about everything of penang and forgot about image. I was laughed to death in this episode. That’s why i disappeared at the end of the show – stomache! I love durian..Kana Juliana loves durian too. We will go back penang and eat durian in balik pulau with special reserved ??.
Haha… ????… since when did great poet ?? went to Penang? Hee… I’ve never been to Penang before, but always wanted to go, because I know there are many Hokkien people there! (Ya la.. I very pro-Hokkien one.. hee..)
Hey all, I added a new Live Chat area for all of us. Visit the home page of Penang Hokkien. https://penanghokkien.com
Then look for it on the left.
Hi kew: Well…… I dun think people from China will be very interested in Dr. Sun. I will surely bring them over there – but dun forget China is a communist country. Dr. Sun has more popularity in Taiwan than the mainland. ^_^
Ah Long ah, better you ask them what kinds of thing they want to see or visit lah. Some China people that I know don’t like those historical places. Also don’t like beach one. So better is know what they want first lah. Then only can recommend mah.
Ah John ah! I think u should change the title of this podcast…instead of “Tourist Attractions”…U should have “tukar” it to “Nama Station Monorail Pulau Pinang”, hahaha… : )
I was laughing as hard as “Katapuru” when listened to this show…on the street, in the train, in the “jamban” as well!!!…damn “shiok”!!!!…begitu kelakar sekali!!!!!
Ah Long, I think u should show ur friends from China the seedy side of Penang especially at night despite of those famous “Tourist Attractions”…one suggestion….how about “Lorong Garu”, hehehe… : )
I think I will show them the Ah Kua (Pondan) attracting customers around Campbell Street at night, those very fat and coquettish ones. Friends of mine used to call them Muscle Girls…… Hey Sister Go Sister Go Sister……
