This week each of our guest shared their stories about their own pair, or pairs, or spectacles.
Send me a picture of your spectacles. I’ll share them here:
Tua Pui Po description of spectacle frame is called commonly called Flexon (by Marchon). It’s been around the market for several years now in the US. If I recall, about 3-4 years already. Now, other manufacturers/brand do produce them also. It’s around USD$150-250 can find liao. $150 range for simple frame type i.e. extremely thin, extremely light, $250 range and above is for the sophisticated frame i.e. extremely thin, extremely light, may be couple with extremely small multiaxle hinges and screwless frame so you can easily swap your lenses if needed (like mine).
The flexible material itself is under the category called memory metals. Normally nickel-titanium configuration is used for optometry application.
CAUTION: Do not wear this and go to sleep although you actually can. Possible eye damage can occur.
Oh yeah I forgot…
Eye test in US is very mah-huan .. because those test actually can check for potential Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneratio, retina sensor damage, and many others.
It helps in some degree to know i.e. if you’re going to be permanently blind is 5 yrs from now etc.
Zzzzzz… i missed this topic. My wife and in laws run an optical chain, and we’re also from a lens manufacturer/supplier in Penang! My apology for unable to attend on this topic, else we’ll be able to provide some very insightful news on types of lens, market trend and brand, price and if its overprice, and etc..
Sidenote: The trade in frame is a gimmick and one of the marketing strategy. Cos the lens once being grind and edge, it cant being reused anymore, and especially if you have astigmatism, it comes along with axis, so other people may not be accustomed to it. Trade in able to rebate around RM50 if im not mistaken (and im not sure if there any minimum cap of purchase), but you cant trade in more than 1 for a pair of spec. 0 or minimal discount after that.
We’re in this business, there are competitors everywhere… 😀

Went to Pusat Juara Optic (Pg Road) today. Mr lim asked me how I know about his shop, I told him that I was recommended by John Ong from Pg HK. He the quicky replies: Oh that Bikok lang speaks hokkien one ah ….. hahahaha ….
Anyway, after choosing the frame and test the eyes … I asked him how much is the cost … I really couldnt believe when he first told me is 190 ringgit! Damn cheap and good service too! Satisfied with the purchase! Now, I can highly recommend this shop to all penang hokkien fans to this shop! Thanks to you and cheers!
