Oh dammit, I was so hungry when I came here to download the episode…..and the pics made it worse!!!!
The hawker food price was tremendously high and very luan lai!
Penang now mostly everywhere is selling RM3.50 / RM5.00 for a plate of Char Koay Teow.
Chung Ling High School, Sa Kak Eng Loh Mee, we call it ” Ah Sim Loh Mee” has moved to the corner food court besides Greenlane Esso Petrol Station. i keep on scolding while having the loh mee, portion very small and condiments is extremely little…The Super Tanker is related with this Ah Sim Loh Mee
猪粪Du Sai Chicken Rice has moved into the Tanjung Bungah Wet Market Hawker Centre, Sell from morning to noon.
Awesome discussion on Penang Hawkers Food! I wish I was in the discussion!
The char koay teow mentioned which is at Gurney drive corner years and years ago, used to also have jiu hu eng chye and also tou hu pok in a stick with a cucumber in the middle and they also sell cockles! When I was back years back, the char koay teow and jiu hu eng chye were at the Gurney Hawkers centre near the roundabout.
The white curry mee mentioned at Aboo Sittee lane is truly good for its pek cham kay! Curry mee is also good there!
To make the pek cham kay, a boil and poaching method is used and soaking in cold water is a must!
Two types of satay, one with the peanut sauce and the other type of satay is without the peanut sauce! All the ‘liau’ is seasoned in the satay itself! I forgot what this type of satay is called! They have it in Newlane and also at Ocean Green in Northam road!
Lor Mee is also good at the yellow house in Pulau Tikus (morning store) and also at night at Bee Hooi, Pulau Tikus! It used to be good at a store near Goddess of Mercy in Pitt Street! I think they are kind of related.
Poh Piah (my absolute favourite!) is best at Padang! The one good at night is at Bee Hooi, Pulau Tikus! Not as good as the one in Padang but can do good!
Chicken rice, char sio and sio bak I must try the one mentioned in the show when I go back to Penang!
Wan tan mee, my favourite store is at night at Chulia Street. The sui kow is also very good!
The best oh chien which I discovered when I was back Dec 2011 is in Fong Wei (Sri Bahari Road)! OMG! Go and try pleae PGHK listeners, its really good! While you are there please try the Sar Hor Fun too! You will not regret it! And these are not pricey at all! While waiting for these to arrive on your table, the boiled peanuts they give is also very good!
The other hawker’s food which was not mentioned is ark chiap (duck chiap)! My absolute favourite store is at nite at Kimberley Street!
John, the chicken feet across the road is also good and you will like it as its the black type not fried, sticky and soft – melts in your mouth! And while you are there, don’t forget to get some Ham Chim Peng (at the corner of Kimberly/Cambell)!
Gosh, I miss them all! Happy eating PGHK listeners! Great show!
If anyone of you knows John Ong, please relay the following message to him. I guess he may be interested…
