Another good show, John. I feel very guilty now having commented about your ‘annoying’ laugh. Listening to you having to avoid the mic and controlling your laugh, is just not right. I take my comments back….LAUGH AWAY!!! If I want to listen to your podcast, it is only right that I learn to enjoy your laugh. 🙂

    Keep it coming!

kshern: You are so nice! No, don’t worry about the comment. I really think that’s annoying when I listen to it. But don’t worry it’s not going to change. But for everyone’s sake, I really should move away from the mic. I’ll keep laughing! But you are so sweet to have responded to it so kindly. Thanks for the mention on the website. And also for giving the show several opportunities before losing interest.

I find myself, after listening to podcasts for a year, that it’s hard to judge a show until you listen to about 3 shows. But of course, the first several are going to be a bit rough. That’s why I ony started naming the shows with #1, 2, 3. The prior shows are beta testing, sorta.

Anyway, Thank you for the comment. And of course your support!

I think the earlier podcasts were a little bit too long. That was probably what made it a little boring (at least to me). I can hardly recall the second half of the earlier shows! Keeping it to around 30mins is a very good idea. That’s why I prefer episodes 3 & 4 to the rest. Of course I do like the other shows but mostly the first half only cos my attention span is short! 😛

I’ve edited my earlier blog entry to reflect my change of perception towards the show. No salt needed now! LOL! 😀

Good show. John. 30 mins is juat the right length of time I think .Talking about Hokien opera, that reminds me of those TV drama ‘Li Khor Bo Wa Khor’ too . It is really nice to be back to the memory lane. Back in those days, I couldn’t understand those Opera as they actually ‘sing’ a lot, but I love the Teow Chew Pan more than the Kon Hu Pan as their costumes were so shining. Thanks again.

ksshern: How nice of you. 🙂

Glad you like 3 & 4. Surely there’ll be ones you like, and ones you don’t. But that’s totally fine. That’s why it is good to download the shows using iTunes or ODEO, or any other iPodder client. Shows would get downloaded to you, and if you don’t like it. Just skip it. There’s always something next week. (Or at least we hope.)

    Thanks again.

  6. Hokkien Neoh

Hi chiak pah liau boey, I have heard all your 4 Hokkien procast, “mai ka lu kong toh chi leh ho tiah, ka liau pun ho tiah” I have always look forward to listen to your “talk-cock, sing song” stories (not crude way of saying but a Spore style of putting it). You are refreshing, spontenous and always so-easy to LOL (I dont think its annoying, its kind of a “hiau-lemak” laughter, you know what I mean. Its been sort of a thing I look forward to listen and relax and lean back of my sofa feeling. John. Heow Hong & KK, keep up and gossip more …..I mean kong ka che wa, mai kong angmoh wa, kong Pinang eh hokkien.

  7. Magician

Good show… if possible just allow Heow Hong to sing… wonder how his singing is… hehehe

  8. John Ong

Hokkien Neoh: Thanks for your comment and support. My lemak laughs can turn into santan. Maybe make some kaya. Aiyoh, pot toh eaw liau. Make sure to come back next week for another fun fun show. Also, help me plomote to all you kawan.

Magician: Thanks and welcome. He sings very well. But cannot let him sing on the show. If it is a copyrighted song. 🙂

i’m very new to this, so i haven’t heard the podcast but i’m very excited as i miss penang hokkien like hell and the ‘wa si hokkien lang’s hokkien isn’t penang… uh, my point is: awesome — thanks, john ongline!

and to hokkien neoh: thanks so much for saying ‘hiao lemak’, i literally had a seizure in my chair for a whole minute!

  10. John Ong

hiccupin: Thank! Thanks for the kind words even before listening to the show. I hope you’ll listen to one or two, and come back and let us know what you think. We take praises and well as constructive criticisms.

Tell us where are you from? 🙂

Good effort and keep up the good work to promote the Unofficial Official Language of Penang Island. As a fellow Penangite living in KL – it’s very refreshing to have come across your blog. Hope you will have more posts and who knows? In future, we might even have a comedy online thing with Penang Hokkien being the language used … what’s next, Penang Hokkien being used in the UN or on winner’s speech session at an F1 race? haha … that would be hilarious! I take it you are in the US at the moment??

  12. John Ong

Adrian Choo: Thanks for the comment. Yes I’m in the US. There WILL be more fun fun episodes coming up. Stay subscribed (the best way to listen to the show, learn how to subscribe here. Or just come back to the site frequently.

I really think the wit, beauty, and uniqueness of Penang Hokkien is often being neglected. I’m for sure trying to bring it back. I think podcast is the best way of doing it. Please also help me spread the news to all your friends who might be interested in the shows.

    Kam Siah!
