This topic came about in an interesting way. Due to popular demand, I had to change my originally scheduled topic to talk about ketiak. Find out why. Also listen to our discussions about deodorants, body odor, hair and more. Find out how many percentage of our live listeners use deodorants!
PGHK #265 Gu Leng (牛奶)
We all grew up with milk, whether or not you like it. If you think there’s nothing to talk about milk, then you are mega wrong!
Listen to stories from our guests and myself about milk. You will have a good laugh, and it comes with calcium and lots of nutrients.
Ongline #365 Joan, Siput, and Penang
No, you did not go to the wrong website.
This is still Penang Hokkien Podcast. But the chat I had with Joan is so Penang-centric that I couldn’t pass sharing it with you right here on PGHK.
I hope you will enjoy the show.

Joan is back this week to chat with us about her special bond with Penang.
She also told us about her first book “Relatively Speaking”.
Thanks to many of you who wrote in and called in with your messages informing me how much you enjoyed Joan. Since this show is also pre-recorded. I play and respond to your messages next week.
I hope you will enjoy as much I on how Joan is connected in a very special way to Penang.
If you are interested in purchasing Joan’s books. Please email her at ffjoan [at] gmail [dot] com. Or send me an email, and I’ll forward that over to her.
PGHK #264 Sek Ki (色旗)
We can’t avoid talking about the ghost festival. This time we focus on when and how people offer food for the hungry ghosts. What are the things we do and shouldn’t do during this period.
I started the show by addressing the issue that several listeners of ours raised. Recently, more and more of our guests are using some very inconsiderate racist and derogative terms for other ethnic groups. I voiced my own opinion on how I am completely against this kind of language. I don’t disagree that racial discrimination from all sides are still there. But being racist and calling people names aren’t the solutions.
On a lighter note, I would like to invite all of you to join me along with a few other members of the panel to talk about podcasting this coming Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 2PM to 3:30PM. Butterworth Megamall Public Bookstore.
I’ll be waking up in the middle of the night to talk to you all live, I hope you’ll go support this event and spread the word about podcasting.

Hokkien Tones
Michael Churchman is back to share his research and knowledge about the various tones in Hokkien.
You will find both his pieces about how to write Hokkien with roman alphabets (Pe·h-oa-ji 白话字) and his latest addition — Hokkien Tones, on the top right corner of Penang Hokkien Podcast website.
I hope you will find this as interesting and worthwhile as I do.
(Also, please send a thank-you note/comment to Michael for taking the time to generously share his knowledge with us)
Author Joan.
I had a nice chat with a Penang-born Singaporean author. She explained how she started writing and discussed about her books.
Listen to this show (link to Ongline #364 Author Joan), it’s really interesting.
It also sets up for next week’s show where she will be talking about her love for Penang, Balik Pulau, siput, and more.
PGHK #263 Kui Cho Kiaⁿ (鬼做囝)
Ghost stories are back. This time some of the stories are getting very personal. One of our guests shared how she possibly saw her own child before birth. Another shared some gruesome murder stories. One shared how her brother was taken over by a ghost in the evenings. And much much more.

Yes, some people actually ENJOY cleaning up the house. I hate it. I’m sure some of you are the same as me, and some actually enjoy cleaning the house. Do you like cleaning the toilet? I actually enjoy cleaning toilet. Share the chores that you like and hate.
