We had small discussion during the podcast because juliana doesn’t good in hokkien and chinese. we explained to her some of the hokkien words. it was fun talking to you all anyway.

  2. xian

hey..i think we throw mandarin, not orange!!!

  3. Xiamen Ah Long

Ha-Ha. Lots of people mistakenly call it “orange” yah. Our admin from Penang called to me asking me to buy some oranges for some people here in Xiamen office, but end up I realised she was asking me to buy mandarin…… Ha-Ha.

  4. Reynard

I think it’s called “Mandarin Orange”….neither “Mandarin” nor “Orange”… : )….put both vocabulary together then u will get the right “word”, ha….I mean in English-lah!

  5. John Ong

It’s a literal translation. Dim Kahm. Throw Orange.
And I think different regions using English may call it differently. I call it Mandarin Orange, and a different kind called clemantines, that’s similar to Pong Kahm.

  6. Reynard

Holly-cow!!!!!! I loved this show so bloody much!!!!!!!!!………..too bad I wasn’t there to be w u all while Ah John was “crapping” w ya guys including that “Juliana”. ha!!!….I loved it so much n grinned from ear to ear especially when Ah Long Said ” Tim Ah Jong..Tam Ah Pon!!!!!!!”…gosh…it’s so “LOUD”, ha!!!!
Guess what…to all the Penang Hokkien Podcast listeners…I rather “Tim Kim Chio…Tio Beh Piu”!!!!!!!!!…Please go n buy lottery tomorrow, ha!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Reynard

Oooooppps….I meant “Tim Kim Chio, Tio Beh Pio”, ha!!!!….@….”Throw Banana, Win Lottery”!!!!
To all the listeners, the best “Home Made Remedy” to “cure” ur illness when u r sick is to listnen to Ah John’s Penang Podcast cause the laughter is the best medicine…simply…as I’m under the weather while listening to it n I’m way feel much better now after this “show”!!! Thanks to Ah John, Katapuru @ “Water Chicken”, ha, Lap Chiong, Juliana…not to mention…our “Tuition Teacher”….Ah Long. Kam Sia!!!

  9. xian

hey.. i am confused here. isn’t it orange is known as ‘chiam’ in hokkien? and ‘kham’ is refering to mandarin? well, i might be wrong, as i know my hokkien is seriously terrible, but i remember my grandma calls orange as ‘chiam’…

I listened to this episode again and again today and laugh non stop in office.
This is one of the way to promote penang hokkien since everyone here so curios about the funny conversation. (Boss not around today) hahaha… I told juliana we are famous already because of our laughing in the episode. I think the way we laughed can beat JOhn already….
