Aiyah, thank you thank you. Besides listening to it multiple times. You can also listen back to the older episodes, using this website go back to the older episdoes. Or follow the iTunes intructions above, and you will get all the episodes from the very first one. Thanks for listening.
oh my~ i am scared and laughed…. i am totally love you all.
but i am not sure you all, but i think the font here is abit too small to read.
i am looking forward to see more and listen more….
The program is ok, but you guys sound like ah pon. Are you guys ah pon or what? No offend, but u need to sound more manly.
yah more man! but i like miku’s voice….damn funny even just listen him do the laughing… sometime really do kill my ears ( when the volume went to high)
Penang Lang: I can’t speak for the others, but if you are talking about me sound like I am gay. Yes, I am gay. It’s not a secret. And I am NOT offended. But, there is also NO NEED to sound more manly. As long as I sound like myself. What is the point of becoming someone else so that some ignorant people think that you’re more “manly”? If you stay put, we will have some shows in the future about homosexuality, perhaps you’ll learn a thing or two about it. I do hope you’ll stay, because you are not the first who has such thoughts. In the forum, people are way more ignorant about the subject of homosexuality. Which is part of the reason why I started podcasting.
i have a few gay friend… but i think they are nice and funny. quite like them though….
john, i like your laughing voice….just make me laugh
Hi Miku John,
First thing first, gay and ah pon is totally different. A gay man, might look straight, for all we know. Ah pon ( or pondan in malay ) , is those who likes to dress up and act like a girl . When they talk, their hand needs to bend 45 degree angle, and always touch people. So, i think you need to seperate this first.
Anyway, i thought we can say whatever we like as you mention in one of your podcast, thats why i bother to bring up this voice issue. If critism is not allowed, then just ignore it.
Thanks and have a pleasant day ahead 🙂
Penang Lang: Thanks for the comment again. No, I do not mind, and in fact, welcome criticism. But I, more so welcome your opinion. I will not censor, and very much happy that you brought up the subject. I think we are lack of a word to call gay people without any negative connotation. I have no answer to that. But being effeminate doesn’t make one wants to be a woman. There are those who may.
Back to the comment, if you tell me the audio is too low. The website doesn’t load properly (apparently some Internet Explorer users can’t see the right column until you scroll all the way down), but I don’t think being manly is something that will improve the show. It’s like asking some Chinese person not to have such black hair.
But seriously, I am not offended. I very much welcome your opinion. I appreciate all that. But I just thought I have the responsibility to answer when I hear comments that’s based on general misconceptions.
Hi Miku JOhn,
Thanks for taking critism. Anyway, i dont mean the audio is too low. What i mean is the way you guys speak is too ah pon ( too sissy ). I know its not a problem, but what i just want to say is, it would defintely be much better is a guy sounds like a guy, and a girl sounds like a girl.
ps: Please do not link this to gay/lesbian issue, as this is totally not related.
Thanks again
I just think you DON”T GET IT.
I can tell from the comments that lots more education needs to be done. But learning takes willingness from both sides. Obviously, this isn’t the case.
I KNOW you are not talking about the audio level. That is an example that cirticism has to come from something you CAN fix. Sounding sissy is a part of how I talk, who I am. Not something I can fix. Yes, I can sound more manly by being someone else. That’s not what I’m going to do. I would rather BE myself.
Again, and again, and again, being more manly doesn’t make the show any better. A man needs to sound like a man, a girl needs to sound like a girl is a comment that comes from your world. In the real world, people should be who they are. The human being is more important than gender roles. It only shows that you only have a black and white way of looking at gender. If you open your eyes, the world is not black and white.
And yes, we can leave sexual orientation out of this conversation, what I said above still stands.
I hate for this to turn into a dead-ended conversation. But it is getting there. You are entitled to have your opinion, but I am obligated as a human being, as a proud gay man to educate the misinformed and those without the right information. But it still up to you to be willing to learn it.
If we can agree on the idea, or if this turned out to be a winning or losing conversation, then, I’d rather this to end here that we agree TO disagree.
Regardless, I appreciate you checked out the show. Several thousounds people checked out the show, many hundreds stayed. If the show is not your cup of tea, please, by all means, check out other podcasts. I’m sure you’ll find one that will suit your taste more. Go to https://podshow.com or https://podcastalley.com for more shows. I am a podcaster for two years, and whether or not we agree on some issues is not going to stop my appreciation for you learning more about this brand-new medium. I hope you’ll find other shows, and spread the beauty of podcasting. Hey, better yet, start your own show. That’s what inspired me to start Penang Hokkien podcast. I waited for 6 months since I started podcasting, to get some content created from Penang, and I finally gave up, and started one myself.
Welcome to podcasting if you’re new to it, and keep looking if you’ve been listening to it for a while and still hunting for a show that you like.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. Here I am being who I am and saying what I feel. If you mind, then you don’t matter. 🙂
ghost story damn nice ^^
I have read through and I find that some conservative and sensitve comments about homosexual. I am age 32 and was formerly from Chung Ling High School Penang and been living in LA with my wife and children for few years now. I think Penang Lang’s comments are too particular and insulted. If he had raised up this issue in Western countries or some open minded asian countries like HK,Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and Philipines. He will be critized and ignorant by even straight and homesexual people. I think he should think first before he raises up the sensitive issues because this is a wide podcast among the world or might demoralized himself as his comments might not be accepted by alot of people. For those people who have got involved, pls do not take any offensive. Thanks.
I really appreciate those who chimed in. He’s entitled to have his own opinion, be it conservative or otherwise. I just feel the need to use this opportunity to lay out the facts. Without facts, many people may have a very shallow and uninformed opinion about things that is not commonly known. Hopefully some will learn from this conversation. And I already said that I agree to disagree. People will use their own judgement. But I truly appreciate your comment Ric. And Wantan for your concise reponse.
We can comment or critism to the show but why critism to the Voice.
NO POINT…………
May be…………………..speaker or headphone got problem liao……………output is different liao……….need to change liao
John please be your self.

John !! Just be yourself.
Being manly doesn’t help to make your show more attractive or better.
TO WHOM THAT IT MAY CONCERN!!
Do you know whats is KARMA?
Don’t forget !! The Shallow Straight (guy or woman) like you would have the possibility to produce a gay, effeminate or even tomboy in your near future.
Please ask your future son to be more manly if he were the effeminate.
You would know the feeling if your son replies you:
“PAPA MAMA…..I am pondan or gay, hard for me to act so manly like PAPA…. Sissy way suites me more, don’t border me PAPA MAMA, why you guy so narrow minded? PAPA MAMA?”
walao… only 3 days didn’t come here got so hot topics ah…. everybody hv their rights to post any comments in here and everybody hv their rights to hv different thinking. Some people think that man with a bit girl voice is not acceptable, which this is normal. Because penanglang is just a human. We all also a human.
We always hv different in thinking, voice, sound, act & etc. In my point of view, I support, BE MYSELF. why we must act to be someone just to praise somebody???
Another thing, if you would like to criticize others, also prepare to accept criticize from others. Hope penanglang and others can accept the different of each others.
hmm, just pass by your website after seeing in the paper few days ago. i must say, i tend to agree with some of the comment made by penang lang. I don’t agree with him that you guys need to change your voice to attract more audience, however he do have a valid point, whereby a manly voice on a man would definetely sounds better.
Miku John,
I read through all the comment above, and seems like you can’t differentiate from gay to sissy, although you are gay yourself. Trust me, i know a lot of “soft” people ( sissy ), yet they are straight.
penanglang,
What Miku JOhn says is right, if you don’t like the podcast, you can always leave. I know this is sarcastic, but the owner of this podcast have made it known that he is sensitive to this subject.
ps: i think the name of this podcast should be change, instead of saying penanghokkien, which is not true, as the hokkien spoken through the podcast are not 100% penang hokkien. It should be called sissy’s penang corner or something like that ( punt intended ).
Cheerios
i DONT DARE TO LISTEN THIS EPISOD NOW….WAIT AFTER THE MONTH OF 7 1ST…
Penang Lang & Passerby: Okay, I have made it very smooth so that you can “step down the stage”, but you choose to go so that you will “appear” like you know what you’re talking about. Well, I’m sorry to say, you don’t. And next time when you want to pretend to be a different user to comment on the site, to support yourself, please make sure that your IP address isn’t the same first. The more you try ot recover, the more of a joke you’re turning youself into. Even your English sounds the same. But IP address won’t lie. Perhaps you can only agree with the point that isn’t a point if you are indeedt he same person.
Well, at least out of the hundreds of positive email messages I got, only one is from an ignorant bigot (you don’t have to be so, only if you choose not to learn, and be accepting).
Miku John, You seems to be a very ignorant people. I am now on a business trip to germany, are you telling me that, i am the same person as passerby? Just bcoz that person share the same opinion and english as me, you are saying that we are the same person? How naive can you be. Please check on the IP i post on this message, and judge yourself whether i am passerby.
I should have know better that gay people are very sensitive on gay subject. Although they openly admit they are gay, but they are very sensitive if people say they are girlish.
Please for goodness sake, be more open minded. And stop accusing something which is not true.
I hope PASSERBY will do me a favor by posting a message, so that miku john will know it is impossible for two person on a different side of globe to be the same person. I feel sorry for dragging PASSERBY into this conflict bcoz of some ignorant gay people who preach freedom of speech, yet do not practice it.
Thats it from me Miku JOhn, do all you want, but please do not disgrace us penangites.
I’m not offended that you called me girlish or a sissy. I already told you that’s a part of me. Am I being sensitive now or are you?
Okay, let’s assume that two people happens to be having the same IP address. Who happens to be commenting on the same post. Fine.
Again, I’m a proud sissy, I enjoy my girlish attributes. I merely pointing it out to you that my sissiness is not something I can “butch it up” so that the show will be better. Every post you made just clarify your understanding of the GLBT community. It only amplifies your bigotry. Every single post I told you that I am a sissy. I am girlish. But you are claiming that I hate to be pointed out that I’m girlish?
Several posts ago, I already agree to disagree. But you just can’t drop that. But I will now. My reply after this is.
“Ignore”
wah still debating about the voice thingy ar?? aiyo…i tot this is for ppl to talk about the show not about how we sound like (correct me if i’m wrong)… funny la you all… let’s enjoy the show la… 😛 sissy or not i dun care…i just care about the content…content not good, voice like angel oso no use la… miku john, keep up the good work!!
John,
Don’t waste your time on replying to those upsetting comments, especially after all the efforts and attempts to ‘educate’ those ignorant and yet, stubborn ones. Some people are just meant to make people’s life miserable. Think on the bright side, because of this particular ignorant person, you get to know there are many of them who love and concern about you! Remember, we are always here!
Me & the majories of Penang Hokkien Podcast listener sure will support Miku John, speak up for us, John, whenever it needed 🙂
Thanks for all the support. Don’t worry about me. I’ve been in public eyes for a while. I know how to handle this kind of person. And really, I am not offended, I am not hurt, I am merely doing my job as a gay man, and as the host of the site and the podcast to be informing the misinformed/uninformed. Even without this person, I still and do appreciate all your support and kind words. The overflowing concerns in the form of chats, email, and comments are greatly appreciated. Kam the very siah! Let’s move on, and enjoy the show, and be silly!
Wow… the new show is on & I tot the comment here has been closed liao…
mana tahu when I get into here found that so many story happened…
U are very brave to face on reallity, I salute to you Miku John ^_^
Thanks Ang Ku Kueh. I think, sometimes the biggest fear to overcome is myself. When I accepted myself. NO ONE can be in my way. Standing up for myself is the least I can do for all those who fought their way to make GLBT rights a little easier. I will have to do my part to pave the way of the future generations.
faint~sweat~ i juz realize they are debating….no wonder no one answer my reply..sad =?
after re-go through the comment, i juz can say some comment is too harse.
dont ever to “jaga tepi kain orang lain”…
and the thing i can say a real gentlemen or guy wont talk about other people or comment about other people like that. It seems like auntie only do that but of cuz not all la…
Take it easy….make life more ez…dont so complicated…dont think too much and unneccesary things
