As many Chinese Penangites are observing the Hungry Ghost Festival, we on Penang Hokkien are joining in and share our experience and stories from the younger generations. I have learned quite a few things from my guests. If you are a chicken, don’t worry, it’s not very scary at all.

Hahaaa!The show is very good!IFirst i thought must be very scary wan coz Eau Kui….Hungry Ghost!!!!But it come out so funee & nice,PPP,is vry funee with ghost voice & Kuku is vry good in talking and all the others members too!!!!They really do a good show!Well done guys!!!

an aunty praying the “road site” after setting up the fire on the joss paper they whole family sit at living room watch TV, they heard some voice “like ppl fighting for those burning things from out site…” their neighbour watching the fire from their balcony and saw a lady with a red shirt long hair sit on top their car roof which park near the fire place…their neighbour leg become soft on the spot… (from 98.8 Rooster Bowl Morning Call-In Listener’s Stories on Monday 27/8/07)
We pray at the roadside opposite my house during the actual day, 7 guek 14 meh. Out of sudden the wind was so strong until couldn’t lit up the candles. My hubby say out loud “Hor Hia Tee, tolong mai chiao kuk! Hong jin nya tua! hor wa lang kha kin tiam liao lu lang eh ciap khi”. Surprisingly, the wind was gone… I was quite eerrie during that moment but have to pretend like hero 🙂 The praying went well after that. Not sure whether the souls are really out there and try to attack our stuff. Probably we live in Malay neighbourhood and there are lots of Eau Kui out there.

Cause to be Eao Kui : too Greedy & Kiam Siap in previous life, they had to stay hunger for several hundres years…
We pray for them not only we scared with them, but most of all was “Kesian” them, so thats way we offering foods… especially in 7th month…
I like to eat Atap chee too… hehe 🙂
regading ppp statement say hungry ghost is because the die hungry is wrong leh….. hungry ghost is because they homeless i.e – ghost without ppl pray 4 them during cheng beng, n the day they die, ghost tat no married so no one pray 4 them n youngerster (they all condsider as hungry ghost)…… i ask my mother n she say tat correct n ppp… ru blur? or ru getting wrong information? 😛
