  3. Beh Ki Beh Lok aka Pek Thor

Miku John ah, actually what is ” Arabaijob ” ? no such hokkien wua ler…

  4. Juyee

Was it Arabaijob who said that in Xiamen people said qui lui? I have no idea about Xiamen. However, lui is a Chinese word. The old people in Chaoshan [Diosua or Teoswa] calls money lui for this was the old Chinese money.

We should have a list of those Malay words used and their meanings so that those of us who do not know those Malay words can refer to these words so as to understand what is said!

  5. Ang Ku Kueh

    so funny

  8. Miku John

Sean Eng, so glad you liked it. I was laughing out loud when I preview the show before I posted it. Arabaijob is SO funny.

For those who are too young to know what Arabaijob is, well, Arabaijob is a game we used to play as little kids, if we see a Bangkali with a tuban, we will say Arabaijob, then we’d have to say the color. If you don’t say “jop”, then you will get cubit. It’s quite racist if you ask me, calling a Bangkali as Arabai. I’m not sure what the source is too.

  9. Beh Ki Beh Lok aka Pek Thor

    Miku John ah,
I never heard about arabaijob, but i when i was small i only play AEIOU.
    it sounds:
    AEIOU … BANGKALI LOVES YOU…
    .
well, what about the others ?
    Thanks,
    Beh Ki Beh Lok

  14. Tamjiak

I am now in oversea. When i mention i am from malaysia, people here said “Petronas Twin Tower”. I think our former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir has really done a good job. This is an impresive landmark for Malaysia. We are proud to be Malaysian.

  15. Siao Cha Bo

aiyo, i was eating chicken wing when miku john and gang sang “Negaraku”… almost got choke by the bone, keke… i like the malay convert to hokkien part, lmao…

  16. Ah Q

Miku is right on Che buk. It’s cleaning up your pet-pet after ‘doing business’.

  17. Nicholas

I saw a advertisement on the TV featuring all Penang Hokkien, lousy ad but cool using penang hokkien, the ad that advertise petrotut primaks, a lady wan with motobike

  18. Xiamen Ah Long

    Hi Nicholas:
Serious arh ? Where did you see it ? Can record for me arh ? Can tell more details ? I want to make a radio station and TV channel for North Malaysia in Penang Hokkien.

    Hi Siao Cha Bo:
I also dunno, that day “ngeh-ngeh” said wan. Ha-Ha. But if you know ??, you should know it’s exactly the same meaning as Hairan.

    Hi All:
I am posting all these Malay words to the forum under . Let’s collect all there and build our database. ^_^

  19. Ang Ku Kueh

haha… Ah Long ar… U finally on show liao… long time didn’t hear frm you ^_^

Its sounds very interesting when we explore the combination of our very local Penang Hokkien words. there was always campur with Malay, nyonya, Thai, ang Moh & Tamil as well…

I can think of the Tamil words we all familiar with:

eg: “Eh…Your mic very “Paria” ler…”
“I had something drop outside the car, can you please “Gostan”…”

  20. KengHu

Miku John, you’re really a good singer! .. I like the way you sang the National Anthem..

    .
This word: “HONG HIAM” ,it means SUDDENLY ,right ?
if you translate it to mandarin, it is “feng xian”(risiko) ,right ?
    why har ?

  23. arabaijop

    Hi Ang Ku Kueh,

  36. Miku John

Oh, and thanks for the comments and kind words about my singing voice.

  37. Sua Pah Kao

It is a very funny show… Arabaijob is so down to earth and yet funny… hehe… if got chance stay at shang hai, must join that club she mentioned…haha…

Miku voice really good loh… next time back penang must go “red tut” sing karaoke, and chose that room got ghost one, so that it enjoy also… hahaha….

By the way, newer negaraku does not repeat the last verse liao… since few years back, they simplified it already but i fogotten the reason liao. Maybe they think the perhimpunan take too long hour as we need to sing so many songs…. hahaha….
Like Setia, negeri pulau pinang, negaraku, and also school song. now even got jalur gemilang….

but then, any1 still remember how to sing pulau pinang song ah?
    any1 have the lyric?

Anyway, i like that Setia song very much….
Demi negara… Yang Tercinta…. DiCurahkan Bakti Penuh Setia….
Demi Raja…. Yang Disanjung Tinggi… Kesetiaan tak berbelah bagi….
Demi !@#%$&^%%@#&^&*…. forgotten the lyric also….

Miku, maybe you can have 1 episode solely singing all those patriotic songs…. hehe….

  38. Laksa Pin

Miku John’s voice is outstanding lah. Echoing the others. For Sua Pah Kao, you can get the lyrics of Penang State song in Wikipedia just hit Penang in the search button will do.

Added borrowed words from Malay into Hokkien:
    sarong, mulut, pulut

Anyone heard about Nyonya words like nyok nyok means old already? Another one is pong pai hai means the white fungus that Chinese use to boil in soup. Proper Hokkien should be pek bok ngee.

Overall good show by Miku and the gang. Looking forward for next week’s show.
