      I think I know what’s the lamp name… It’s called Carbide Lamp…

      They use Carbide as the fuel… Carbide is also used to make fruits look as though as they are riped… Carbide will change the colour of the skin on the fruit to make it looked riped… But the fruit still will taste un-riped…

      Carbide is mostly used by Thais to “ripe” Durians, Longan/Laici, Banana and Mango… So I usually avoid fruits imported from Thailand…

      My mom told me it’s call “Tai Kong Teng” (???)

      Carbide in hokkien is “Karpai Thor” Rite??

      Patrict, I think you’re right. My mom confirmed the information. She also said that the the carbide lamp is different from what I mentioned Tai Kong Teng. Carbide lamp is exposed, just a tube up with open flame. But tai kong teng is different. It’s enclosed. I’ll try to find a picture.

      Does anybody know the Chinese character for hiao as for Hiao Lok? Is your lok like going down ?? I keep laughing. Why dont you change your name to Chi-go Bet rather than hiao lok. Hiao is for girls. Chi-go is for boys. he he!

      Miku John, I prefer to call it me-chi for pasak malam. It sounds so much Hokkien.

      I had so much problem listening to this episode again today. I finally can get to hear it the second time. It keeps saying that there is a problem with your system,

      I have just learned a new word lao jaio. I learned su jaio from my sister because her dog keeps su jaio. I already know pang jaio. So I know three jaio. Is there anymore jaio. he he 😉

      It is so good that Ah John uses lihai [??li4hai4] correctly as awesome. Yes Miku John I think that you are very lihai. You know some people who are not Chinese educated think that lihai is a negative comment. I think that the negative word is lang hiam . Does anybody have the characters for lang hiam?

      pasar malam what u wanna buy they have it from clothes to cooking utensils to food….u say it they have it .luv to go pasar malam when i was small, a lot of tidbits stall (sim boey,kana,ang mo theng,jeruk & lots more)will always ask my parents to buy 4 me….when u go to pasar malam to buy things remember to tawar- menawar till now its still the same

      Today I shared the episode with my family in the car, everyone was laughing like crazy in the car. We’re trying to talk my aunt’s mother-in-law, I call her Che-Eum Poh into joining the podcast as a guest. She is over 60 years old but very active and talkative. She knows many things about Hokkien and Penang…… ^^

      Nowadays the pasar malam `things’ are very `kooi’ (expensive), hv to bargain lah! But i love to go during the Chinese New Year, very fun lah…
