Guests: Arabaijob, Ah Tox, & Ketta Gu

Ki Tong

Arabaijob discovered that Ah Tox goes to the temple a lot. So, joining with Ketta Gu, we talked about the rituals and customs about Mui Ang Kong. I laughed so much I almost lost my voice. You CANNOT miss any minute of it. The show is a little long, but I guarantee you’ll love every second of it. Especially our Penang Hokkien version of 12 zodiacs. Share your own experience and stories in our Penang Hokkien forum.

Check out these photos sent in by listener Tanny. This is the area Ah Tox was talking about called “Bui Or”

miku this is bloody brilliant!!!! I grew up in a family where my mum live and breath “mui ang kong”. I remember those days where we were given burned yellow paper thingy to drink when we are sick; and “ang kong” seems to be able to answer all kinds of questions. Wonder how doctors make a living back then??

there is this really popular seafood food restaurant by the sea in this gertak sanggul place called ‘h** b***’. in fact i just went there 2 days ago for dinner. aiyoh so many people. luckily we had booked ahead. a lot of people had to stand around waiting for others to finish.
after listening to this episode i wonder if i should go there so often! a lot of ‘hantu’s being let go there!

long, long time ago i witness mui ang kong. myself personally also got mui ang kong few times but mostly enquire about general well-being.
but some temples so money-oriented, they fix a price and ask you to buy this and donate that.
some are “swee yean” meaning whatever u give up to u. i knw few very sia and ‘boleh harap’ thru recommendation from friends.
for khan bong, in penang island very seldom heard of. but on the mainland, i know of two. one in kulim and one in selama, kedah, very, very far ho. i went there last month. must book in advance cos a lot of people, come as far as kelantan, kl, singapore. my booking was done in feb.
the speciality is that u can converse in whatever dialect you prefer, be it hokkien, tiochiu, cantonese, hainan, hakka, etc…

Venusgal, I agree with you. Ah Tox is great. I want him to come back more too. As long as he is willing, I’ll always have him back to chat with us. He’s already been on a few times since this episode. I’m looking forward to more of him.
