This week we have several listeners sharing their stories on how they got married to a foreign country. As we celebrate 50 years of independence, it’s good to reflect on our national identity, especially those who live abroad. Explore the courage of those who get married to a foreign land. Laugh with us in funny situations when you get married into a completely different culture.
Let me explain the foreign marriages in USA. I have seen a lot of divorces and some work out very good. The marriage is always with culture differences. It depends on how each feels about the relationship. Some married for convenience purposes like getting a residency card without loving enough to get married. As years go by, you have known a person well enough and knowing that live is just too short to be unhappy, then divorce is the choice to end a relatioship. Marriages involve kids will last longer or may be forever. For a family without a kid involves, as I have one child from Malaysian marriage, the marriage tend to be more fragile. We both are very cautious in dealing with the relatioship. The thinking is always a gap between two minds. Anyway, women are more protected when a divorce involves kids. Guys pay child support to women with kids, or legally adopted kids. Women can get almony from guys. USA divorce rates are high. Couples tend to cohabit togehter than getting a marriage. Is Missouri a legalized gay marriage state? John can answer the question. Good luck in all the foreign marriages. JLE, Kacang, Jipun abor, Laksa Gien,Toh Pui Poh and Selly who is not here. HOPE YOU ALL HAPPY AND THE MARRIAGE LAST FOREVER. Also, younger immmigrats attached to the new culture easier than the older immigrants. I have friends with immigrant kids of different ages. Their marriges with a citizen is more for helping of a kid to go to school here than for her own happiness. I even sponsored my friend’s kid when they have not paying tax enough to apply the VISA. Love need to nourish, and work togehter. It does not matter foreign marriges or same nationalities. The next topic could be how to cope with a marriage stress? Dealing with arguments within a couple and sort the differences between a couple. I don’t think John is forever a winner in the argument? Bruce will tired of you if you keep on doing this to him.
Hey jepun lau ee, you’re a hot jepun bride. Though I cant imagine how u feel under all those make ups, plus that stuff on your head and the whole kimono which must weigh a tone!?!

Honestly, JLE is very SUI (pretty) and a lot a lot prettier than other local japanese brides i’ve seen. Just look exactly like a japanese doll. That’s why she won her hubby’s heart by “pulling his teeth”?! hahaha… I think your hubby wanted to see you not the dentist lah. Even his had no problem also wanted to visit the dentist ;-P
When we first came to japan with 0 language and 0 friends and until now after years, we still survive and kicking in this foreign land, one thing never change inside us is how much we miss our homeland, our language, our culture of coz our food too. I am very happy and grateful to have found PGHK podcast which made me laugh weekly and some funny + interesting people who have made my days. (^-^)
JLE, you are very LUCKY (hehe) to have such a traditional wedding, sitting on a lorry and “eu kay”(parade), i really can’t imagine that, just can’t help laughing lah… Why they didn’t made you a better or nicer flower cart, why they put you on a lorry?! Lorry didn’t match you lah!!

Ya,pat ..you are right ,the japanese kimono is very heavy, coz we need to wear at least 5 layers of different colours, and that is one of the reasons,I cant squat in the jamban,so I fall down loh…….wakakakakakakaaa…
Wow… Jepun lau ee, you are very “Shuuii” oh…
Wow… you are like married to Royal japanese man… Got parade summore… hehe 🙂
Wish you Happiness all the way 🙂
Lau ee, you are one ‘kirei’ bride.. haha.. very funny wedding.. and yea, lucky to have both chinese and japanese traditional wedding.. i guess no matter whoever get married to or where you move to, you don’t really change much deep down inside..

u r so beautiful……if u dun go to japan, u will become datin liao….hahahahahahahahaha
wakaka…as a fans of JLE i want to shout-out :”I LOVE YOU jepun lau ee…!!!” coz what she share is so funny and amazing…make our life full of joy…i also feel “respect” of how JLE treat her hubby so rude (keep on scold him even during wedding day) but her hubby still LOVE her so much…and from the story she told us…marry to other country is a hard experiance, example like “socks” just got only 1 pair…”kena” urine also have to wear…if at own place, sure many ralative or family will help you to get the new socks…no need foot wet-wet for so many hours…i try to draw out “JLE on Truck in KIMONO look”…wakaka…

Hi
Just got to know about this site from a friend of mine. Nice to chat in the Penang dialect again!!!! Got attracted to this subject as I’m married to an ang mo kau in the UK for 4 years+. So far so good, but agree with the culture difference!!!! Very susah!!!
Thanks may for your feedback. It’s always nice to hear from a new listeners. PGHK listeners are the best at promoting the site for me. Hope you can join us in the future too.
You are welcome, John.

8) The 50 sen nasi lemak, don’t fancythe posh ones!!!!!!!
Hmmmmmmm…. sigh…… hubby doesn’t like santan and belacan… so can’t cook much at home, can only eat out!!!!!
Hi May, i miss all food you listed and many more, when i had morning sickness in japan 3 yrs ago, i was missing home food crazily. At nights, instead of counting sheeps, i listed all Penang food names until i fall sleep, hihihi… my hubby too doesn’t really like santan, spicy food made him lau-sai, and laksa durian too smelly until he chao-lo. Now i think no more 50sen nasi lemak liao lah. RM1 at least, no?! oh my goodness, i am drooling all over on my computer (~_^)
Sigh…. that’s the main problem with keh gua kok!!! I speak to my parents quite frequent so don’t feel that homesick unless I argue with hubby or one of my parents falls sick… but Penang food…..sometimes I wish the distance between Pg to UK is just a little hop!!!!!
Talking about lau sai, I made chicken curry with the AA curry paste for both of us, but hubby beh tahan and lau tuar sai!!!! Wah tiok meh kah puar si!!!! Hehehe!!!
suddenly feel like having the kiam chai thng yam rice…
JLE for the win!!
Sitting in the truck on the wedding parade would definitely make Jepun Lau Ee the talk of the kampung!
