      i love to eat round round… so nice… ah hua is abit blur blur about “koler” leh… look like ah hua only use small glass only lah…

      Oh I’m glad Shua Hu knows what I’m talking about. I was beginning to doublt myself and wonder if it’s something we only use in our family. Apparently not.

      koler. now im still using koler. use koler to drink milo very nice.

      the thing 2 take out the round round is call sinduk.

      yea, that thing is called ‘sin-duk’. modified fr malay word—> senduk, i guess.

      ah hua how come dunno what’s ‘koler’.. it’s kinda common.. maybe it’s common for me, as my family runs a kopitiam, we r using lots of ‘koler’ in the shop, hehe..

      I think Ah Hua is adopted to Singaporean’s culture liao.. may be singaporean don’t use koler one… so ah hua forgot about those name…

      Ah Cent, yes, “sinduk” can be it. But what I was thinking was a like a “lao3”. Think of sinduk but got holes in it. Like a sift or we call it strainer or a chinese “spider” skimmer.

      John, If not mistaken that is call ‘tapih lao’ or some people call ‘kopi lao’.. hahah…

      Wah. I missed out the podcasts for a few weeks, no we got so much new topics to discuss oledi. I am so outdated. Must catch up until the latest episode tonight. Xiamen is cold these days, and I some more got lao-sai…… Miss Kopi-O…… But I cannot locate the Tapik my aunt created for me…… Nowadays use 2-in-1 liao……

      i remember there is a stall selling round round at Magazine road opposite Shangri-la Hotel,maybe they don’t sell everyday,but cheh-it(1st) or chap-go(15th) they are always there. Does anyone know about the stall? are they still selling?! i wonder. i just made round round last week in japan but without the rumpanan(bcs couldnt find it here),so not as good as what i had in penang one. John, i used to love cold round round in our hot hot country,but with the cold season in japan now, i find the ginger hot round-round soup is so warming ^^ agree?! It is the first time i heard about the word “koler”,at home we usually refer koler as “tik-korn”(iron-mug?!), and the big big tray you mentioned in this episode, we call it big “tik-puahn”(iron-plate?!). Yes, Ah Cent, drinking cold milo with koler is so much nicer,my brother drinks milo that way too.

      Hello jippunabor: I think it’s still there. But I dun like it that way, they put a lot of ginger. I love my grandma’s style with pandan too. Actually you can try to bring some pandan to plant in Japan. Someone’s doing it in Xiamen (also a cold place, no snowing though). I was trying to, but I always forgot to water it, so it died out but I am going to plant again. You can use it to cook a lot of our local food.

      I am thinking of doing round-round here in Xiamen too. I got all the material (because local people also eat – Chinese food mah) except they dun use pandan……

      then i think i am considered lucky in melbourne =) can find both the glutenous rice flour (same brand as my grandma uses back home, the one with elephant logo!!) and pandan leaves (frozen, product of thailand).. can get the fresh pandan leave here (if not mistaken, they are grown in queensland), but, the frangrant smell is just close to none…..yesterday found the frozen pack of ready-made glutenous rice ball in asian groceries store! just need to boil it and put into the syrup water! then keep it cold in the fridge! it’s yumm!!! i am enjoying mine..and i hope you guys enjoy yours too! =P

      yeah..for those who is staying with family, must appreciate it. Alot of people out there may not be able to eat round round as you all eating now at home… People alway only realise the most important thing when they lost or miss it…. jia e e, tai ke lai tuan e…

      First of all, just wanna wish all the Penang Hokkien Podcast listeners “Happy Dang Chek”!!! Second of all, please forgive my “pua tan sai” Hokkien, as Ah John have mentioned…my Hokkien is really the really “pariah”….as for Ikan Yu@ Shua Hu, I’m not entirely adopted to Singaporean culture at all-lah!!! In fact, I am still pretty much “embracing” 100% pure Penang “attitude”-hoh!!! Guess maybe I’m a bit “Ah Moh Sai”-lah…hence my Penang Hokkien isn’t that “Tulin” whenever I have spoken this dialect as I’ve mentioned before on the show that my Hokkien is really the really “Rojak” one….just like Ah John-lor, : )
      I did have the “round-round” one as my breakfast today!!!! My Singaporean friend’s wife made it herself….w twisted “lum-pandan” in the syrup also but too bad she didn’t make the purple @ “lam-bun-nia” colour one…: (
      Walaubagaimanapun……what the “TUK”…”Koler” is?!!! I still don’t know what it is….but I think I have a tiny little idea of what it looks like after reading Jippunapor’s comment…”tik-kong” n “tik-puahn” did indeed sound familiar to me. Picture worth than a thousand words….really appreciate it if anyone out there can at least post a picture to this site in order to “enligthen” me, hahaha!!!
      Big thanks to Ah Cent for mentioning “sinduk”…..now I’ve recalled this “slang”. My family always said “sin-low” instead of “sinduk”. Gosh, I’ve learnt a lot from all the comments from u guys!!!
      Ah John, I think our Hokkien is really the really “chia-lak” @ “teruk”….we should further our “talk-cock” session in near future in order to improve our mother tongue, hahaha!!!

      Aiyoh!!! I have this “Frappr’s banner” 2 months ago……thanks to Reto!!! It is really “chiang chin” @ “high-tech”!!! Just click n zoom n we all know where u r living…only in England, “Mee-Koh” @ U.S…n Japan, ha!!!!!
      Please feel free to “add” urself-hoh!!!! As for me….cannot-lah!!!…otherwise I would have riled against a lot of “Ah Pia” since I’ve talked too much, ha!!!!!!!!

      You can pretty much plot yourself anywhere. I even saw Georgetown, Pulau Pinang.
      Precision is not what you have to do, it’s the proximity that counts. Just would be love to see where podcast is reaching all the corners of the world.

      AIYOH!!!!!! I’m so “Bodoh”-lah!!!! How come I never thought of clicking “satellite” on Frappr. I always clicked on “map”only, hence cannot zoom in any further to “plot” my hometown in Penang. Now, I know exactly how “Ah John”‘s living environment looks like in “Bee-Kok”@ U.S instead of where he is living on the “map”, ha!!!….not to mention, Ah John n Shua Hu’s “kampung” in Penang n Bukit Mertajam!!!! Frappr is really the really “canggih”!!!!!!
      Now, I’m going to “plot” Reto’s location so that I can “spy” on him, : )….scary isn’t it???!!!!

      hi hi, just listened to this episod. i remember “koler” cos my grandma used to collect all those “damaged” “koler” and wait for one ah pek to come and “repair” those “bocor koler”.

      I think that stall at “choon man yuan” still there, i only like the brown sugar one and the tang yuen with peanut inside.

      Ah hua mentioned that the food in singapore doesnt match uo to penang’s standard, i totally agreed 😛 hehe. The only food that i like in singapore i guess only roti!
