John! It’s just hard to stop myself from dribbling when you guys talked about KUIH!! YUMMM!! This is one the thing that i miss the most!!! You can get some of them ( ???, kuih talam, pulut ‘tai-tai’, ‘huat-kuih’, yam kuih etc etc) pretty easily in Melbourne from the Asian Groceries Stores…made by Vietnamese (I thought this is our very own Malaysian culture!!) but i never have the gut to try it out..too scared to get disappoinment!

  2. John Ong

Xian. Yeah, we couldn’t help but drooled ourselves. But check back in the next week or two. There will be more kuih discussions. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for this Hokkien podcast. I’m listening all the way from Sydney, Australia 🙂
I’ve forgotten much of my Hokkien, but hopefully I’ll improve a bit after listening to you! In any case, hearing hokkien spoken reminds me of home and my childhood…it’s especially valuable to me since I live away from home these days.
My family isn’t from the Penang part of Malaysia, but it brings back memories just the same.

    cheers,

    aus listener. =)

    Ben: Thanks for the comment.

Heow Hong: You are really building a group of fans now. Rightfully so, you are very good on the show! So wonderful to have you.

  6. David

I am addicted to your show.

  7. John Ong

David: What a compliment! Thank you so much. I’m never that happy when I hear about people’s addiction!

Hope you’ll come back for more. Subscribe to the show. And help me promote this show. All I’ve been doing so far for the last month has been word-of-mouth. Listeners like you made the work all worth while!

    Kam siah!

  8. kshern

I think it’s easy to get addicted. Even my mother and grandmother are your listeners. When are we going to get out ‘fix’ on the Nonya kuih? ~drool~

P/S My grandmother claims the kuih you are enquiring about is the ‘chai thau kuih’. Not sure if that’s the right one though. 😀

  9. John Ong

kshern: You are the model listener! Thanks for getting your mom and grandma on board our crazy “lian hua” ride.

Next week we’ll post the nyonya kuih episode. It’s been recorded, and it is VERY funny. So, there’ll be lots of my laugh! 😀

I think your grandma is right. There are two kinds of chai tau kuih, one is the savory kind, and the other the sweet.

Everyone: Now, I even allow you to cetak rompak the show. Burn CDs, give it out to your friends and family! Follow kshern food steps.

    Kam siah kshern.

I’m just sharing around something good which is the right thing to do. I’m sure other listeners have done the same.

Heow Hong is really attracting a lot of fans…he’s so natural and he has so many juicy topics to tell! Can’t wait for the yummy kuih episode. 😀

  11. VC

Wa lasa ha leh thor tau kuih, tua KL si kio otak-otak. Tiuk boh?

Anyway, keep up the sipek awesome job guys… I don’t have anyone to speak Hokkien with at KL, so you guys are my regular Hokkien fix. 🙂

  12. John Ong

VC: I think mm si otak-otak lah. Otak-otak si u nui ka hu ka daun gaduk, iong kin chio heok bao eh diao eh mah. Tapi, mm chai lah. Next week, wah lang koh eh kong kah cheh kuih eh koh su.

Thanks for your support. And I’m SO glad that you are enjoying our podcast! Spread the word for us. Like kshern, he’s burning CD for his grandma and mom.
